Shoe Fetish

Well it seems that Wally has a shoe fetish, and he will go through great lengths to get the ones he loves! (My $80 Asics running shoes are his favorites) The other day he climbed on top of a backpack, and jumped to a closet organizer so he could push my shoes out to the ground where he than tugged them to his hideout. When we got to them we found one of them stuck in the end of his tunnel were he had pulled it halfway in. Silly bear!!!!!

Have you ever wondered what your Ferret dreams about? Wally is so fun to watch when he sleeps, he looks like he is very aristocratic and noble. I also wonder if he hears things in his head, like a voice saying “hey don’t forget to drag dad’s shoe under the bed, before you go to the corner”.

Ferrets love small spaces, tunneling is just about Wally’s favorite activity. We went to Lowes and bought a metal dryer vent (metal because ferrets love to chew on plastics, vinyl and rubber, and that can hurt your ferret), and he loves running back and forth in it. But you don’t have to buy anything to have some tunnel fun with your ferret, a pair of pants on the floor or a waded up blanket will put your spelunking weasel into ferrety heaven!

Ferrets will find all kinds of things around the house that they simply must have, and large size is no deterrent. For Wally shoes are very high on the list, even boots 2x his size! We will see him dragging and pulling something across the floor and think, “now were is he going with that?” Under the bed? No, under the dresser? Or under the armoire? Well all I can say is, pay attention! Because your things will start to disappear. I remember one day wile looking for my shoe inserts, under the armoire, I found all kinds of things! Christmas bows, pens, the toys we bought for him that disappeared the day we gave them, and much, much more!!! “Storage is a boom in Weasel Town”.

Wally is a Marshall cinnamon colored ferret (complete with the two dot tattoos in his ear, one means he has been neutered, the other that he has been de-scented). He is very very... active like a 2y old that won’t grow up, so we have to keep him entertained.

One of the things he loves to do most is to steel the gel inserts from my shoes. He will drag them off in different directions to one of the many treasure caves he has established.

Toys are very easy to find for your ferret! Just make sure you find safe toys. The best pet toys are the ones you can play with together. We have allot of fun with a few toys we found in the cat section of the local pet shop. Our favorite one is a skunk with a rattle in it. The tail makes a sound like crinkling plastic sheet. However the best part is it’s on a stretchy string, giving you a chance to interact with your ferret.

There are many products out there for keeping you ferret healthy, and as we have found some will only work if you can get your ferret to take them. That will be trial and error, but if your ferret wont take it off a spoon try putting it on some food.
